THE BRIEF You have been employed by Decks for Change to produce a deck design that promotes social change, focusing on an issue of your choice. The financial proceeds of any printed and published deck designs will support the Skateistan project. Entrants are required to use the provided illustrator template to ensure your design fits the skateboard deck dimensions and shape. You can design for any shape board featured in the template. All designs must be completed in 300dpi. |
TASK 1 : Identify and prioritise research
Once you have brainstormed social issues that are of interest to you, you will need to begin researching your topic. To do this you might :
- Research your topic thoroughly to fully understand the issue that you are responding to (250 words) You could think about :
- Describe : what is it that you find interesting about the topic?
- Identify : what is it that you already know about the topic?
- Research : find new and relevant information about your topic. These must be FACTS from at least 2 reputable sources. Make sure you reference.
- Create a collection of imagery ( at least 5) that relates to this issue. You might use this imagery to inspire your designs.
- Research any inspiring designers that have addressed this issue in their work
TASK 2 : Analysing existing products
Your job is to research at least 3 Skate deck designs and/or designers that inspire you. One of your designs should be from the Decks for Change campaign.

- Explain how effective the communication is in this design. What is it that contributes to this?
