To test whether they are feasible we will do a critique & share session at the end of class. Using the template handout provided, create a series of 6 designs. To do this you will need to : 1. Use the imagery that you have collected in Task 1. You are welcome to TRACE some of these images in your designs using the window or lightbox. You can also use COLLAGE, or hand-drawing. See the examples on Anna's design folio. 2. In at least 3 of your designs you will need to create a link to the skateboard decks that you liked in Task 2. For example, you might choose to work in vintage sepia-tones. Or you might choose bold, graphic linework to practice in your work. 3. These designs need to be completed by the end of class and we will receive feedback from your classmates |
SKILL BUILD : CREATE A PHOTOSHOP COLLAGE
STEP ONE
Download the template below and open it in Photoshop STEP TWO Download any imagery that you want to use for your collage and open them in Photoshop STEP THREE Select all using COMMAND+A Copy using COMMAND+C Click on your template file and paste using COMMAND+V STEP FOUR Make sure that your LAYERS are arranged so that the image that you have cut is behind the window of the skateboard shape. To do this, make sure that your layers are open by going to WINDOW>LAYERS. Make sure that the layer called SKATEBOARD LAYER is at the top of the list. You can do this by clicking and dragging it. |
STEP FIVE
You might need to cut parts of your collage. To do this you can use the MAGIC WAND or LASSO tools. STEP SIX - OPTIONAL COLOURISING To change the colours of your work, select IMAGE>MODE>GREYSCALE. Then select IMAGE>MODE>CMYK to colourise it again. Select IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>HUE/SATURATION and play with the colouring STEP SEVEN - OPTIONAL STYLISING

TASK 4 : Present and refine your chosen design
Create a final draft for your chosen design to present to the class.

- Create a large-scale A3 mock-up of your design in your sketchbook
- Justify why this is the best possible solution. You will need to write this on your website. You should think about how effectively it COMMUNICATES your theme/social issue
- Scan or photograph your final design and upload onto your website for feedback
